Common Questions

No. These volunteers serve because they have a passion for helping the citizens of their communities. They are empowered by Ohio Revised Code to establish a unified system of care for individuals with mental illness and addiction.

ADAMhs Boards are made up of community members from varied professional and personal backgrounds. Boards include individuals with lived experience and family members of people with lived experience. They  include recovery and mental health experts and medical professionals.  Boards also include law enforcement officials and others who have an interest in community behavioral health services.

County Commissioners appoint two thirds of the members, and the Ohio Department of Behavioral Health appoints one third. In multi-county board areas, the County Commissioners of each participating
county must appoint members in the same proportion as that county’s
population bears to the total population of the district.

Yes. Each Ohio community is unique Local citizens understand the intricacies of their service districts. Because of that, local citizens are best able to assess needs, determine priorities, create plans, and make local decisions.
